And when the people heard these evil tidings, they mourned: and no man did put on him his ornaments.

When the people heard this bad news, they went into mourning, and no one put on any of his jewelry.

וַ יִּשְׁמַ֣ע הָ עָ֗ם אֶת ־ הַ דָּבָ֥ר הָ רָ֛ע הַ זֶּ֖ה וַ יִּתְאַבָּ֑לוּ וְ לֹא ־ שָׁ֛תוּ אִ֥ישׁ עֶדְי֖וֹ עָלָֽי ו ׃
