(KJV) Proverbs 13

⥃A Father’s Discipline

[1] A wise¹ son [heareth] his father’s instruction: but² a scorner heareth not rebuke. [2] A man shall eat³ good by the fruit of [his] mouth: but the soul⁴ of the transgressors [shall eat] violence. [3] He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: [but] he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.⁵ [4] The soul of the sluggard desireth⁶, and [hath] nothing: but⁷ the soul of the diligent shall be made⁸ fat. [5] A righteous⁹ [man] hateth lying: but a wicked [man] is¹⁰ loathsome, and¹¹ cometh to shame. [6] Righteousness¹² keepeth [him that is] upright in the way: but wickedness¹³ overthroweth the sinner¹⁴. [7] There is that maketh himself rich¹⁵, yet [hath] nothing: [there is] that maketh himself poor¹⁶, yet [hath] great riches. [8] The ransom¹⁷ of a man’s life [are] his riches: but the poor¹⁸ heareth not rebuke. [9] The light¹⁹ of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp²⁰ of the wicked shall be put out. [10] Only²¹ by pride cometh contention: but with²² the well advised [is] wisdom. [11] Wealth²³ [gotten] by vanity shall be diminishe²⁴d: but he that gathereth by labour²⁵ shall increase. [12] Hope²⁶ deferred maketh the heart sick: but [when²⁷] the desire cometh, [it is] a tree²⁸ of life. [13] Whoso despiseth²⁹ the³⁰ word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded³¹. [14] The law³² of the wise [is] a fountain of life, to³³ depart from the snares of death. [15] Good³⁴ understanding giveth favour: but³⁵ the way of transgressors [is] hard. [16] Every prudent³⁶ [man] dealeth with knowledge: but a fool³⁷ layeth³⁸ open [his] folly. [17] A wicked³⁹ messenger falleth into mischief: but⁴⁰ a faithful ambassador⁴¹ [is] health. [18] Poverty⁴² and shame [shall be to] him that refuseth instruction: but he⁴³ that regardeth reproof shall be honoured. [19] The desire⁴⁴ accomplished is sweet to the soul: but [it is⁴⁵] abomination to fools to depart⁴⁶ from evil. [20] He that⁴⁷ walketh with wise [men] shall be wise: but⁴⁸ a companion of fools shall be destroyed⁴⁹. [21] Evil pursueth⁵⁰ sinners: but to the righteous⁵¹ good shall be repayed. [22] A good [man] leaveth⁵² an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth⁵³ of the sinner [is] laid up for the just. [23] Much food⁵⁴ [is in] the tillage of the poor: but there is [that is] destroyed⁵⁵ for want of judgment. [24] He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.⁵⁶ [25] The righteous⁵⁷ eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly⁵⁸ of the wicked shall want.
