⥃The Hurtful Tongue [ James 3:1–12 ]

To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.

[1] Hear2 my voice, O God, in my prayer: preserve3 my life from fear of the enemy.4 [2] Hide5 me from the secret6 counsel of the wicked; from the insurrection7 of the workers of iniquity: [3] Who whet8 their tongue like a sword, [and] bend9 [their bows to shoot] their arrows, [even] bitter words: [4] That they may shoot10 in secret at the perfect11: suddenly12 do they shoot at him, and fear not. [5] They encourage13 themselves [in] an evil matter14: they commune15 of laying snares16 privily; they say, Who17 shall see them? [6] They search18 out iniquities; they accomplish19 a diligent search: both the inward [thought] of every one [of them], and the heart, [is] deep. [7] But God20 shall shoot at them [with] an arrow; suddenly21 shall they be wounded22. [8] So they shall make their own tongue23 to fall upon themselves: all that24 see them shall flee away. [9] And all men shall fear25, and shall declare the work of God; for they26 shall wisely consider of his doing. [10] The righteous27 shall be glad in the Lord, and shall trust in him; and all the upright28 in heart shall glory.
