And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring [certain] of the children of Israel, and of the king’s seed, and of the princes;

Then the king ordered Ashpenaz, the chief of his court officials, to bring in some Israelites from the royal family and the nobility—

וַ יֹּ֣אמֶר הַ מֶּ֔לֶךְ לְ אַשְׁפְּנַ֖ז רַ֣ב סָרִיסָ֑י ו לְ הָבִ֞יא מִ בְּנֵ֧י יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל וּ מִ זֶּ֥רַע הַ מְּלוּכָ֖ה וּ מִן ־ הַֽ פַּרְתְּמִֽים ׃
