Shechem was a son of Gilead and grandson of Manasseh, the son of Joseph. He was the ancestor of the Shechemite clan within the tribe of Manasseh (Numbers 26:31). When the land of Canaan was allotted to the Israelites, the Shechemites received their inheritance as part of the half-tribe of Manasseh that settled west of the Jordan (Joshua 17:2). The Shechemites are mentioned again in the census list of Numbers 26:31.
