Epic dialect ἐπισσ- (as always in [Refs 8th c.BC+], shake at or against, τί τινι, especially with the view of scaring, ὅτ᾽ ἂν.. Ζεὺς.. αὐτὸς ἐπισσείῃσιν ἐρεμνὴν αἰγίδα πᾶσι [Refs 8th c.BC+]; ἐπισείουσα τὸν λόφον ἐκπλήττει με [Refs 2nd c.AD+]; ἐ. πόλεμον τῇ πατρίδι stir up.. , [Refs 1st c.AD+]; Πέρσας ἐ. hold them out as a threat, [Refs 1st c.AD+]; but ἐ. τὴν χεῖρα, in token of assent or applause, [Refs 5th c.BC+] so she seems to threaten, of a statue, [Refs]:— passive, κόμαι ἐ. τοῖς κροτάφοις [Refs 1st c.AD+]
