But ye shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their groves:

Rather, you must tear down their altars, smash their sacred stones, and chop down their Asherah poles.

כִּ֤י אֶת־ מִזְבְּחֹתָם֙ תִּתֹּצ֔וּן וְאֶת־ מַצֵּבֹתָ֖ם תְּשַׁבֵּר֑וּן וְאֶת־ אֲשֵׁרָ֖יו תִּכְרֹתֽוּן׃
