ἀπάρχομαι,

make a beginning, especially in sacrifice; τρίχας ἀπάρχεσθαι begin the sacrifice with the hair, i.e. by cutting off the hair from the forehead and throwing it into the fire, κάπρου ἀπὸ τρίχας ἀρξάμενος[Refs 8th c.BC+]
