Ira the Tekoite is named as one of King David's Thirty mighty warriors in 2 Samuel 23:26 and 1 Chronicles 11:28. The Thirty were an elite group of soldiers who fought valiantly for David. Ira came from the town of Tekoa in Judah, about 10 miles south of Jerusalem. 1 Chronicles 27:9 mentions that Ira was in charge of a division of 24,000 men in David's army, overseeing them during the sixth month of the year. He is called the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite.
