ὄχθη, ἡ,

older form of ὄχθος, any height or rising ground, natural or artificial, bank, dyke by the side of a river, ὑψηλὴν βάλεν ὄχθην [Refs 8th c.BC+]: mostly in plural, raised banks of a river, in full, ποταμοῖο παρ᾽ ὄχθας [Refs 8th c.BC+]; ὄχθαι καπέτοιο the raised banks of the trench, dykes, [Refs 8th c.BC+]; also, heights beside the sea, ἁλὸς παρ᾽ ὄχθας [Refs 8th c.BC+]; ταὶ ὑπὲρ Κύμας ἁλιερκέες ὄ. [Refs 5th c.BC+]; also of rising banks at a little distance from a river, [ὄχθη">Refs 5th c.BC+] is distinguished as the bank of a river, from ὄχθος a hill, in [Refs 5th c.BC+]; and this distinction generally holds, but in [Refs 5th c.BC+]; and in [Refs 5th c.BC+]; in [Refs 4th c.BC+]; and in [Refs 5th c.BC+]; in late Prose, τὴν ὄχθαν (sic) τῆς θαλάσσης sea- shore, [Refs 6th c.AD+] —Cf. ὄχθος.
